Eger Wins First Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic
David Eger took the lead with a birdie from close range on the 16th hole and went on to claim his first win in five years, beating Tommy Armour III down the stretch in the inaugural Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic.
Eger had three rounds in the 60s and closed with a 3-under 69 for a 54-hole total of 11-under 205, one stroke ahead of Armour. Eger had been in a three-way tie with Brad Bryant and David Frost after two rounds, and was a stroke back after the first round.
“I’ve worked hard,” said Eger, fighting back the emotion. “It’s been a long struggle. When you get to be 58, you’re not sure you still have it. It’s been a great week.”
